On the school page that I visited from
my high school, William T. Dwyer high school, there is no access to teacher/class
pages. These types of pages are only visible if you are a student and if you’re
logged into your account. The public cannot view the individual class pages.
But on the school’s website there is access to a school calendar and school
news/important events. There is also information about the school, the
district, the guidance department, and athletics. These all have links for
important information or paperwork. This is simple information that does not
allow outside people to have access to any important information. It may help
protect students to not put too much information about the classes out for the
public to see.

Technology is a
wonderful tool that facilitates efficiency in and out of the classroom. I feel
that using Word to make lesson plans and using other helpful lesson plan websites
for inspiration will be very effective. Other teachers may have great and
creative ideas that you had never thought of, so sharing these with others
makes teaching easier. Also email communication with parents and students is
key. You can remind people of important things immediately and they have a copy
of it on their email account so they could pull up the information on any phone
or computer. This eliminates the problems of misplacing papers or forgetting about
them. The online grade processing systems are highly effective and make grading
and input very easy. This could help me to cut back on grading time and
allowing me to have more time to do other things like create cool lesson plans.
The Technology
Sandbox was extremely educational and inspirational. However, in the class room
I want to be able to employ a good mix of technology and more traditional hands
on materials to help students learn. I feel that if we focus too heavily on
technology and using computers, etc. it will limit students and influence them
to be too caught up in technology and not enjoy the real world as much. But, I did
think that the Smartboard would be a great tool that allows kids to be more
hands on when learning because they can come up and touch the board. They
interact with the subject and are stimulating more than one sense which can
help to make information stick better. If they come up and get to write or
touch on the board this makes the information more fun and exciting for them. I
would also love to use the 3D pens so that kids could create amazing projects
and toys that can relate to what we are learning about. This can also help them
to better understand the concept of 3 dimensions. These technologies were very
exciting and super cool.
