“The Flipped Classroom” is a new way that teachers have come up with to help students learn new information. The concept is that instead of coming to class, listening to a lecture and then going home and doing homework on it, the students will watch a video and maybe answer some questions about a new lesson and then when they come to class the next day they already have exposure to the material. It transforms the students from passive to active learners when they’re in the classroom. They find that it helps deepen students’ understanding of the content and makes them more engaged in classroom discussions.

Open educational resources are teaching, learning and research resources that are in the public domain and available for anyone to use. These include full online courses, book/course materials, videos, tests, practice tools and other technology that facilitates learning of new material. These materials help teachers and students to learn more on their own time and freely. Lesson plans for teachers are a great example of this, and it benefits teachers all over. Open content is the actual documents and materials that can be modified and used by anyone on the internet. Wikipedia is an example of open content available for everyone

Some new skill I acquired from doing this PowerPoint assignment is how to create a master slide and put an image on that master slide which then transfers over to any other slide that you are using with that same template. I liked having to practice using PowerPoint and thought this was a good skill. However, I felt that 10 slides of information were very excessive, time-consuming and unnecessary. I feel like we could have gotten the same set of skills if we had to do a 5 slide PowerPoint. I also felt that the recording of ourselves speaking was difficult. Next time I would put less information on the slides and just have it as talking points.

This tutorial was completed on Sunday, October 22nd. This video is “Introduction to Songwriting” which is a short video guide to the basics of songwriting. The author of this video, Cliff Goldmacher, also introduces not only the fundamental skills that are needed when writing a song but also the business aspects that come along when wanting to publish and copyright a song. He also talks about the types of jobs that you can have as a songwriter, either writing for record labels, being your own singer/songwriter, or picking out different songs for TV shows and movies. The ELA technology standards that I would feel most prepared to teach are “Multimedia:” Literature and Informational Text. I think I would need to be better acquainted with the subjects of history/social science as well as science/technical subjects to teach them well. I would also be comfortable with “Text Structure:” Informational Text, “Use Multiple Sources,” “Evaluate Speaker’s Point of View,” “Vocabulary: Use Context Clues,” “Write to explain/inform,” “Use Technology,” and “Use Digital Media.” The standards seem quite simple and easy to integrate into my classroom because I feel like I have done almost all of them at some point in my educational career. However, it wouldn’t hurt to brush up on all of them to feel more comfortable in the subject areas. On the school page that I visited from my high school, William T. Dwyer high school, there is no access to teacher/class pages. These types of pages are only visible if you are a student and if you’re logged into your account. The public cannot view the individual class pages. But on the school’s website there is access to a school calendar and school news/important events. There is also information about the school, the district, the guidance department, and athletics. These all have links for important information or paperwork. This is simple information that does not allow outside people to have access to any important information. It may help protect students to not put too much information about the classes out for the public to see. William T.
